MBO
PORTUGAL

We have been manufacturing and assembling to the highest German quality standards at our Portuguese site in Perafita-Matosinhos since 1972 as the main supplier for our parent company, the MBO Group, as well as for external customers.

With around 200 employees, MBO Portugal produces precise and customised parts as well as complete machines with a high degree of vertical integration, and we also assemble modules, units and complete machines. Our factory covers a total area of 95,000 m², our production and assembly facilities occupy 22,500 m².

1965

MBO was founded in 1965 in Oppenweiler, Germany, by Heinz Binder. In the beginning, the company manufactured technically sophisticated parts for aircraft hydraulics for the Airbus.

1966

Shortly afterwards, the decision was made to develop and build paper folding machines used for the production of books, magazines, brochures and maps.

1972

In 1972, construction began on the first production facility in Portugal. The Matosinhos area was chosen due to its favourable location near the port of Leixões, the airport, the Ter Tir (truck terminal/customs) and the well-developed road network.

1993

In 1993, after the opening of the new facilities in Perafita-Matosinhos, MBO Portugal grew rapidly. On a total area of 95.000 m², 22.500 m² of production and assembly facilities were built.

After 1993

In the meantime, a residential area was built next to MBO Portugal to accommodate the resident technicians and occasional visitors.

2020

In May 2020, the MBO Group was acquired by the Japanese group Komori Corporation. MBO Portugal currently employs 200 people in assembly, production and administration.
